VINCENT FOURNIER
POST NATURAL HISTORY (ARCHEOLOGY OF THE FUTURE)
10 June – 10 July 2016
Mixing history and anticipation, memory and science fiction the Post Natural History project shows a collection of ‘upcoming species’ based upon synthetic biology and cybernetics.
Presented in the style of Cabinet of curiosity, with it’s uncanny but also familiar beauty; this poetic and sensitive bestiary questions our relationship to nature and technology. The exhibition consists of photographic images and SLS prints (3D).
In the preface of his book Vincent Fournier describes the work as ‘an encyclopaedic archive caught between memory and an imagined future, where different living species are modified to better fit our environment as well as to adapt to new human desires.’
French born artist, Vincent Fournier regularly exhibits his work in international galleries and festivals and his work can be found in public and private art collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, permanent collection (New York), LVMH Contemporary Art Collection in Paris, MAST Foundation in Bologna, The Schlumberger-Primat Collection and The Baccarat Art Collection in New York.
Labelled as a ‘photographer of the future’, Vincent Fournier will tour his exhibition around Australia starting at the Perth Centre for Photography.
